Insecticide

The poisonous substance which are used to kill harmful insect called insecticides. The insects harm the crops, domestic animal and human being. So they are killed by using insecticide. insecticide can be categorized into two ways:

1. Organic insecticides
2. Inorganic insecticides

1. Organic insecticides

Organic insecticide as the synthetic compound which is composed of carbon-hydrogen, Oxygen, and other elements. There are three types of organic insecticides.  They are:

A. Chlorinated organic insecticide

These compound contain chlorine is an additional element.  These compounds are stable and have a long term effect. for example, aldrin, dieldrin

B. Organophosphate insecticide:

The organic insecticide that contains Phosphorus as an additional element is called organophosphate insecticides.  This insecticide is less stable, degradable and highly toxic to other animals, for example malathion, parathion.

c. Carbamate insecticide:

These insecticides which have an amino group in their molecular formula, are called carbamate insecticide. for examples, bygone  and termic.

2. Inorganic insecticide

They are made from mineral and do not contain organic groups. For example, calcium arsenate, lead arsenate and lime sulphur. These insecticides are used to protect cotton, fruits, vegetable, etc.from insect.

Characteristics of good insecticides

1. They should be biodegradable.
2. They should not be harmful to human being,  birds and higher animals.
3. They should not pollute the air, water or soil.
4. They should not leave long term effect.

advantage of insecticide

1. They kill or control harmful insect or pets.
 2. They help to increase food production.
 3. They help to control cerebral diseases by killing germs.

Disadvantage of insecticide

1.  Insecticide kill not only harmful insect that also some useful insect.
2. They are mostly synthetic and nonbiodegradable.
3. DDT is a stable and non-biodegradable insecticide with long term effect.  Hence, it harms human being, animals, birds, and plants.DDT  causes air, air-water, and soil pollution. If it enters the human body through contaminated food, it badly affects the liver, kidney, and other organs. it also affects the bird's eggs.
4. They can leave a harmful deposit in fruits and crops while using in them.

 precautions while using insecticide

1. We should be very careful while applying insecticides because they can take our life as well.
