A. General assembly
General assembly is the parliamentary organ of the united nations. All UN members are the members. Every member state can send up to five candidates to the assembly but have only one vote. Two-third majority is required to pass a resolution there. As the supreme organ of the united Nation , General Assembly has some very important power and functions. they includes the passing of budgets,discussing international issues and problem,amending the charter and electing the member of the Economic and social council as well as the secretary General . This organ also has a power to recommend the membership to a new country or withdrawal of the same. In this way, the general Assembly can be considered the most important organ of the United Nation.
B. security council
The security council is considered the executive organ of the United Nations. It has altogether 15 members of which 5 are permanent . USA,UK,Russia,China,and France are the permanent member and temporary member are elected for a term of 2 years by the general Assembly. Every permanent member can exercise veto power in order to prevent decision from taking place. The main function of the security council are to monitor the world peace and stability , promote disarmament and enforce the UN charter . It can recommend the general assembly to adopt a new member as well as to exclude an existing member when it seriously violates the Charter. The security council mobilizes its peacekeeping force in troubled countries to resolve their conflicts. This organ also recommends the appointment of the secretary general as well as the judges of the International court of justice
C. economic and social council
There are altogether 54 members in the economic and social Councils. They are elected by the general assembly for a term of three years; therefore every 18 (one-third) member retired every year. This organ monitors the condition of the world in terms of economic, social cultural and educational aspects. Another main function of this organ is to coordinate with the UN specialized agencies suc
as ILO, UNICEF, WHO, and world bank.
D. Trusteeship Council
According to the Charter of the united nations, there is a provision for a trusteeship council that consists of the five permanent member of the security council as well as some other members elected
by the general assembly. The main function of trusteeship council is to work in favour of the former colonies in the past second world war period. However, the council was dissolved in the end of 1994 AD as all the 11 territories under its trusteeship has either attained independence or merged into other states. This means the trusteeship council is not operating now.
E. International court of justice
The international court of justice is the judicial organ of the united nations. It consists altogether 15 judges elected by the general assembly and the security Council . The judges remains in their post for 9 years so every 3 years one-third judges retire. The selection of the judges is not made no the basis of their nationality but on the basis of their qualification and expression. However, no two judges ccn be appointed from a single nations. The major function of the international court of justice includes legal advice to other UN organ and specialized agencies and settle bilateral or multilateral disputes existing between the UN member. It is also a responsibility of this judicial organ to control the violation of human rights and international laws . The headquarters of the international court of justices lies in the Hague , the capital of Holland
F. Secretariat
The secretariat is the main administrative organ of the United Nations. In addition to the running of day-to-day administration, the secretariat enforce the UN decisions, organizes discussion on world issues, communicates to the member countries, publishes various report and keeps records of the UN decision and activities. The secretariat consists of the larger number of officials in addition to a secretary General and a deputy secretary general . The secretary general is the administrative chief of the UN system . He is elected by the general assembly under the recommendation of the security council for a term of 5 years; and he can be reelected for a second term . The secretary general may come from any UN member nations except the five permanent member of the security council. Currently, Antonic Gueterres, a Portuguese diplomat is the secretary general . He was elected in the beginning of 2017 AD
